LeisureWorld Churchfield Supports Happy Heart Weekend 2010

Monday 17 May 2010

Every €2 raised will go to strengthen the Chain of Survival in every corner of the country because in four easy steps – Call 999, start CPR, early defibrillation and early advanced care – we can save lives from sudden cardiac death. An estimated 5,000 people die suddenly from cardiac arrest in Ireland every year when their hearts stop beating. By donating €2, you could help save the life of someone you know. Buy a happy heart this Thursday, Friday or Saturday! Happy Heart Weekend is sponsored by the Vodafone Ireland Foundation.

Man saved last week by Chain of Survival:
Only last week an Irish man was saved thanks to the Chain of Survival. During a busy lunch break period, the man collapsed suddenly on the street with cardiac arrest when his heart stopped beating. Immediately staff in a nearby workplace started the Chain of Survival by calling for an ambulance, as someone else ran to get a defibrillator. As that was happening a local Garda started CPR on the man to keep the heart viable until the defibrillator arrived. When it did, a shock was applied and the Garda continued to perform CPR until the ambulance came. The man is now making a good recovery in hospital. There is no doubt – the Chain of Survival really does save lives.

Last year with the help of all our volunteers we managed to raise a fantastic €630,000! We provided 27,500 transition year students with life saving CPR kits. This year we to continue spreading the message - bystander CPR saves lives. If you would like to become trained in CPR find out wher your local training centre is.
